Basics

When thinking about creating a capsule wardrobe, you really need some great, basic pieces.

Think single colours.

For me, that’s black vest tops, black bodysuits and black t-shirts mainly. Although I do have a few brown bodysuits and a nude long sleeved t-shirt.

The reason these work well is that you can pop them with jeans for a really comfortable, laid back feel, but you could also throw them with some smart trousers or a skirt for a dressier, smart look.

They’ll go with shorts, leggings, jeans, smart trousers, skirts… pretty much anything, and really that’s what we want to use as a base when creating a capsule collection.

The pieces that will bond with anything.

Casual Pieces

So to make sure we have our casual outfits, we put things with our basics to make it so.

For me, I’ll add jeans, and if it’s cold then a cardigan or jumper/sweater.

Great casual options are jeans, leggings, shorts and casual skirts.

Smart/Dressy Pieces

So to dress up your basics it’s great to add in some smarter pieces.

I LOVE a great but comfortable pair of smart office trousers. I feel like black, smart trousers dress up even the most simple of basics.

You can also add some smarter shirts here too. Office trousers and shirts look so smart together.

Equally, you can opt for a smart/pencil skirt with your basics or your smart shirts. Really it’s pretty open to add your style into the mix, and it’s important you think about what makes you comfortable when you’re building your capsule.

For me it’s trousers, but for you it may be skirts!

Layers

We want to make sure that we have a mixture of layers to top up our looks.

You’ll need casual cardigans and sweaters, but also a smart jacket type option to alter your look when you want to dress up a little.

You’ll notice how simple this post is, that’s because a capsule wardrobe IS simple, and I wanted to write in a way that really made you feel that it’s achievable for you too!

It’s not something else to worry about, it’s a way of making your life and your wardrobe easier to manage.
