Some days you get stuck in a funk, and you don’t know why but everything just feels a little bit dark and difficult.

On those days, I like to try and help myself by giving the following 5 things a whirl. They don’t always work, but if anything is going to, it’s usually one of them!

1. Happy, nostalgic music.

The beauty of music streaming services taking the lead, is that you can pretty much find any song from any decade, instantly.

Make yourself the most epic playlist of songs from all decades that make you happy and want to sing and perform! Which also brings me into number 2…

2. Dance like no one is watching.

Once you’ve found those tunes, you want to get your butt up and FEEL THE MUSIC.

It doesn’t matter if you think you dance badly, it just matters that you get moving. Pretend you’re Beyonce, perform like you’re on Broadway. Just get that body moving and feeling and expressing!

3. Journal.

Get out that journal/notebook/piece of paper, grab your pen and release those emotions.

Remember it isn’t WHAT you write, but just that you write every though that’s clogging your brain.

4. Go for a Walk.

Fresh air. Movement. Nature.

Getting outdoors can help for both getting your blood pumping and also getting a Vitamin D hit. Both of which are scientifically proven to make you feel better.

5. Watch something that makes you LAUGH.

Laughter really can be the best medicine.

Whilst it can be hard while you’re feeling bad to find a new show or movie to get into, deciding to watch an oldie but goodie can be a saving grace.

So grab that remote and find whichever programme or movie you know is going to have you in fits of giggles. Get snacks. Get drinks. And then hunker down for a happiness kick.

I know that when you’re going through genuine depression, these suggestions wont even scratch the surface, but in times you’re able to work on your lower mood, these can be great to help lift you a little!
