How to Dress for a Wedding
Consider the theme
Does the wedding you are attending have a theme at all? If it does it would of course be considerate to think about this when planning your wedding outfit. It’s not only likely that the wedded couple would appreciate the thought, but it will also help steer you in a certain direction if you have no idea at all what to choose.
Think about the time of year
You don’t want to rock up to a winter wedding in a barely there outfit, when it’s 0 degrees outside, do you? It’s not only smart as far as your comfort and body temperature are concerned, but also it can help guide you to a certain style if you’re considering the season or weather that’s likely to occur at a certain point. Perhaps a classic, long sleeve look would perfectly compliment a winter wedding. Maybe a more casual, lighter look would be great for that beach wedding in Summer. And on that note…
What’s the location?
If you’re thinking about the outfit you’re going to wear as a guest to a wedding, it’s probably a wise idea to consider the venue type.
Again, it would be a little ‘out there’ to wear a long sleeved, heavy, dark outfit to a casual, beach wedding, wouldn’t it?! However, that look would fit most perfectly at your friend’s gothic castle location, winter wedding.
Are you going to be comfortable?
This is honestly one of the most important things to consider when choosing your outfit as a guest at a wedding. If you choose a short, sleeveless dress because you feel like it’s what you SHOULD wear, but you’re not actually comfortable and are going to spend the entire time pulling it lower and worrying about bending down, then honestly, opt for something else! A large part of looking amazing is feeling amazing, and if you’re in something too long for you, too short for you, too revealing for you or too conservative for you, then you’re not going to exude confidence, or feel your best. Hat/Fascinator or not?
I would say this again is in the category of your comfort. Some people LOVE a hat or rock a fascinator. Some people feel ridiculous. And I think you either feel them and then look STUNNING, or you don’t feel them so much and people sense the discomfort.
Another consideration here is the set up of the wedding. These are usually great at more formal weddings, but not so much at a casual one.
Colour choice
Consider all of the above, and work it into choosing the colour of your wedding outfit. For winter weddings I’m sure deep reds, greens and purples all work amazingly. For a summer wedding, pastels may be more fitting.
However, if your wedding thrower has chosen a theme, such as a classic white wedding, or a black and white wedding, they may request that you choose in keeping with the theme, which will of course make your job easier.
Also, I think a classic, black outfit will fit pretty much any wedding!
Budget
Budget is a big consideration when purchasing any outfit. Consider how much you can afford to spend BEFORE you start looking. This can help avoid disappointment when you end up browsing stores way out of budget!
