There are many reasons why someone would want to get fit. Getting in shape to look good is just one of them. A lot of people need to start exercising for their health, while others because they want to get a demanding role that requires physical fitness. Whatever your reason, the fact is getting fit and staying fit are difficult things to achieve. It takes a concerted effort over a long period of time to get there, and sometimes, there is no obvious reward. So how can you keep the motivation going?

Your Exercise Routine

If you want to fail in this new drive, then set a routine that you will find impossible to keep to. Do not set your alarm for 6 am to do that early morning jog if you are an evening person. Create a workout schedule that you actually have a hope of keeping too. In the evenings, if you just sit about watching the T.V before dinner, then that’s your ideal exercise time. Be honest with yourself and set a good routine.

What are Your Goals?

If you have a set goal, such as running that marathon or fitting into that skimpy dress, then you have something to aim for. Without goals, you may find it more difficult to remain motivated. Break down your goal into smaller bite-size chunks that are easier to achieve. Perhaps a 5 km, then up to 10 km, etc. You can set goals on the abundance of fitness apps that now exist, and they can help you monitor your progress and advise you on your vital statistics. You can combine an exercise goal with a diet goal, too, which will help you reach your goal a lot quicker. Achieving goals is a great way to remain motivated.

Do Something You Enjoy

If you hate jogging, then you are not going to remain motivated if this is your go-to activity. It helps if you do something you enjoy. Perhaps it is cycling or swimming, going to a boxing club, or joining a fitness cartel. It might even be going to a dance group. The point is, find something that you actually look forward to doing.

What is Your Motivation

Sometimes it is easy to forget what your original motivator was. If you are feeling depressed because of the way you look, for example, perhaps you need a reminder as to why you are doing this. Maybe you could put a picture of that dress you want to wear on the fridge, so you get that constant reminder. Some people need an actual physical motivator, and if you are serious, then maybe it is time you hire a personal trainer to keep you motivated. Alternatively, if you have a fit friend, family member, or significant other, why not recruit them to help you achieve your goals? Sometimes we all need a little support. Another person encouraging you, telling you you look great, and getting you out to go for that ride even when you would rather be in bed is worth its weight in gold.
