Eco Friendly things To Do

With the Earth and Climate more at risk than ever, it’s important we start to find ways to live and things to do for fun that don’t add to the pressures put upon both of the aforementioned. So here are a few suggestions for things to keep you busy, without the huge cost to our planet, our home.

1. Go for a Picnic

Look for a great, local, outdoor space and grab your lunchbox!

A Picnic is a great way to either spend an afternoon alone, relaxing with a book, or a way to get together with a group of friends and family to have a blast!

You can make your picnic as low waste as possible, by using your re-usable tubs and bottles, and not leaving any rubbish behind!

2. Go for a Walk/Hike

Not only is this a great activity for keeping things simple and eco friendly, it’s also the best way to get to know your local or new places on a deeper level!

We love apps like AllTrails or Ordnance Survey, that keep you in the know about the best routes.

Another bonus from going for a walk/hike is that you’re moving your body. Getting the blood pumping is a great way to boost your mood and feel better instantly.

3. Try Gardening

Oh, I know if you’re not already in to gardening, it may seem like a boring thing to do. Something for old people. Yada yada.

But actually, gardening is not only fun and mind blowing in many ways, it’s actually pretty magical!

If you’ve taken a plant through the lifecycle of seed to plant, to flower to fruit, to seed, you’ll appreciate that real magic really DOES exist!

And not only will you be working with the Earth, you’ll be supporting eco systems and if you choose to grow your own food, you’ll be providing for yourself too!

4. Stargazing

Take yourself or a group of you out to an un-light polluted, outdoor space for some stargazing.

Pack a blanket, and plenty of layers to keep you warm!

It can be truly magical to have a clear view of the amazing stars on a clear night, and a great, no waste activity, that is not only eco friendly, it’s appreciating our wonderful world (and solar system!).

5. Wild Swimming

(NOTE: Make sure to research both cold water acclimatisation AND open water swimming safety prior to entering any wild water!)

Wild swimming is one of the most invigorating and restorative activities you can do. And it’s eco friendly to boot! There’s nothing quite like a refreshing dip, surrounded by trees, and bird song, dragonflies and reeds.

Don’t enter the water with damaging sun creams and moisturisers on though!

If you’re ever struggling to hunt down a safe area of water in your local surroundings, there are a ton of Facebook groups set up for this purpose. But always keep your wits about you too!
